• Lord Ganapathi and Lord Siva were carved out of a stone by a sculptor called Ekkattur Koon Peruparanan.

• Ancient names of this town are Ekkattoor, Thiruveenkaikkudi, Maruthangudi and Rajanarayanapuram.
